STAFF EXPERTS

WES BUTCH Wes is the leader of our roundabout team, with more than 100 roundabouts under his belt. A graduate of Albion College and Indiana University, he has received extensive mentoring from R. Barry Crown, one of the world’s foremost experts in roundabouts. Since he first became involved in roundabout projects in the late 1990s, his focus has been roundabout concept design and feasibility studies, especially for high capacity roundabouts. Wes is also in charge of transportation planning and NEPA services in Michigan, and he has overseen roundabout plan preparation as well as providing construction assistance in the field. With this background, he brings a broad perspective to the roundabout projects in which he participates. One of his many passions is educating others about the pros and cons of roundabouts, and he has presented at many seminars, public meetings, training sessions, and technical committees.
STEVE METZER, AICP Along with Mr. Butch, Steve Metzer has been involved in DLZ’s roundabout projects for almost a decade with involvement in dozens of our important roundabout projects. He was the project manager for the ground-breaking Northwestern Connector study, a project in suburban Detroit that led to the 2001 decision to construct nine high capacity roundabouts by 2009. Mr. Metzer has remained our project manager as DLZ completes design of six of these roundabouts. He specializes in planning studies and public education, but has also worked on many sets of roundabout construction plans. Steve is a graduate of Central Michigan University.
JOHN M. SALMAN, P.E. Mr. Salman is one of our experts in the preparation of preliminary and
final plans for roundabouts. With a strong background in roadway
geometrics and field services, one of his main strengths is his ability for
direct preparation of clear, yet detailed, plan sets. His technical knowledge
helps us solve challenging design problems, often resulting in significant cost
savings to our clients. And his experience in the field services area allows
him to understand practical aspects of final plans from a contractor's perspective.
