PROJECT PORTFOLIO
Since 1998, DLZ has prepared conceptual roundabout designs, prepared plans, and completed feasibility studies for more than 130 roundabout intersections. DLZ's roundabout experience includes design and construction of single-lane, two-lane, and three-lane roundabouts with our specialty being high capacity roundabouts. Our staff experts also have extensive experience in conceptual design, preliminary and final design, local agency coordination, feasibility studies, public education campaigns, construction assistance, and expert review. The table on this page summarizes previous projects that have been successfully completed by DLZ. Project profiles provide additional details about representative projects.

When you select the DLZ team, you also get the benefit of our experience in many other important areas:
  • We have toured roundabouts in Maryland alongside representatives from FHWA and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
  • We have been invited to make informational presentations regarding roundabouts to many MDOT Region Offices, Traffic & Safety staff, and their executive leadership team.
  • We have provided information and guidance regarding pavement markings, signing, and the use of concrete at roundabouts to FHWA's Michigan Division.
  • We have given presentations to professional groups across the Midwest, including our well-known "Roundabout Myths" presentation.
  • Because of our roundabout expertise, we were asked to serve on the Intersection Safety Committee of the Governor's Traffic Safety Advisory Commission for the State of Michigan.
  • We teach an annual class about roundabouts through Michigan State University’s Traffic Safety Program.
  • We have written informational pieces about roundabouts including articles for the APA's Transportation Planning Journal and the Ohio Planner's News.
  • DLZ has hosted an annual Roundabout Information Seminar for six years in a row. This seminar has been held in Ann Arbor, Michigan; Lansing, Michigan; Berrien Springs, Michigan; Columbus, Ohio; Cleveland, Ohio; Indianapolis, Indiana; Frankfort, Kentucky; Louisville, Kentucky; and Covington, Kentucky. This event has been very successful in educating members of the planning and design community about the pros and cons of roundabouts.
  • Our staff has worked extensively with and has been trained by R. Barry Crown of Rodel Software Ltd.
  • We were selected to design the first three roundabouts for MDOT.
